A Kamloops-area breeder was reunited with her prized French bulldog yesterday after it was stolen earlier this month.
Someone returned the dog to a Lower Mainland veterinarian yesterday, Jan. 31, after it was gone for 20 days, Jennifer De Lisi said. She had offered a reward of $5,000 initially, then doubled that offer yesterday.
"I am in utter and total disbelief," she said in an emailed statement. "Miracles do happen."
The dog was stolen after someone kicked in her outdoor kennel on De Lisi's Cherry Creek property. She discovered the dog, Whisper, was missing, Jan. 12. The year-and-a-half-old canine is a rare, one-of-a-kind French bulldog because of her long, chocolate-coloured fur, De Lisi previously told iNFOnews.ca.
Both De Lisi and Kamloops RCMP reached out to the public after the suspected dog theft that morning, looking for any information that might help find the animal.
Instead, someone eventually returned the dog willingly.
"Special thanks to the RCMP for continuing to look for her every single day," De Lisi said.
Kamloops RCMP said the investigation is ongoing, despite Whisper's return.
“On Jan. 31, the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment was contacted by someone who stated they recently located a dog they believed to be Whisper,” Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in a news release. “Police made arrangements with the person to take the dog to a veterinarian clinic and confirm it was Whisper by checking her microchip. Since then, she has been returned to her rightful owner.”
De Lisi said she has not been in contact with that person yet, only with police and the veterinarian. She didn't want to comment on the past offer of a reward.
