Reward offered for Kamloops area breeder's stolen rare dog

A French bulldog named Whisper was stolen from its kennel overnight from a Kamloops area breeder.

Jennifer De Lisi said when she awoke this morning, she found the door to the dog's outdoor kennel was "kicked in" and one of her two prized bulldogs was missing.

"It's horrible," she said. "Someone jumped the fence, kicked in the door and stole my dog."

De Lisi didn't notice anything overnight, but a caretaker on their Cherry Creek property, around 20 kilometres west of Kamloops, checked the yard at 7 a.m. today, Jan. 12. He found Rosie, the other adult dog, roaming the yard and the kennel door was wide open.

"I think they tried to take both," she said. She figures Rosie managed to escape into the yard.

The year-and-a-half-old Whisper is a rare, one-of-a-kind French Bulldog because of her long, chocolate-coloured, De Lisi said.

"There's not another like her," she said. "And she's famous among breeders."

Whisper is De Lisi's dog, but she said the dog just had puppies, which she was advertising for sale. De Lisi suspects the thief was looking for the puppies rather than Whisper.

"Someone in town has her," she said. "I'm hoping to get it out there so everybody's looking. I want to make it so hot for them that they just let her go."

De Lisi said an RCMP officer was at her home within hours of her call this morning.

She's also reported the dog as stolen to multiple veterinarians in Kamloops and the local B.C. SPCA, and is offering a $5,000 reward for Whisper's return.

Anyone with information is asked to call Tk'emlups Rural RCMP at 250-314-1800 or Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
