Stand down on Kelowna stranger danger alert

Kelowna Mounties have found the man who approached two children last month and have determined there was no criminal intent involved.

On March 22, 2021, police issued a news release about the incident on Arbor View Drive. Two boys told police the man approached them at roughly 1:30 p.m and invited them into his vehicle. They said no and ran away but the altercation created plenty of concern.

However in a release today, April 13, police said they identified the man and are standing down after speaking to him.

"He regrets causing the children, their families and the community concern," said RCMP spokesperson Const. Solana Pare in the release. "We have confirmed that there is no threat to public safety in the incident."

Another unrelated incident last week remains outstanding. On April 6, a 14-year-old girl told police she was approached by a man in a white van at roughly 1:30 p.m. at a bus stop in the 700 block of Rutland Road.
