SAN DIEGO — The Vancouver Whitecaps have earned a spot in the MLS Cup final for the first time.

The club will face Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami in Florida on Dec. 6.

Brian White scored twice as Vancouver downed expansion side San Diego FC in the Western Conference final on Saturday.

Vancouver also got an own goal from San Diego ‘keeper Pablo Sisniega, who was sent off with a red card in the 79th minute for a hard challenge on Whitecaps midfielder Ryan Gauld.

The ‘Caps finished the regular season second in the West with an 18-7-9 record, and eliminated FC Dallas and Los Angeles FC before taking on San Diego in the conference final.

Vancouver topped Miami 3-1 in the CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinal in April.
