WOLVERHAMPTON, England (AP) — Wolverhampton manager Vitor Pereira was involved in a heated exchange with his own fans after a 3-2 loss to Burnley kept his team in last place in the Premier League on just two points from nine games on Sunday.

Molineux turned toxic after the final whistle, with Pereira going over to the Wolves fans behind one of the goals with striker Jorgen Strand Larsen and receiving chants of “sacked (fired) in the morning."

“We understand the frustration of the people and supporters but what I must say, if we fight united with them, we can win games and compete and achieve our targets — without them it is impossible," said Pereira, who signed a new three-year contract with Wolves last month despite the team being in last place having lost its first four games in the league.

“If we win two or three games in a row, things will change," Pereira said. "Two months ago they sing my name, because together with the work we did last season, we are competing in the Premier League and not Championship. Now they sing my name to sack me."

Lyle Foster scored in the fifth minute of stoppage time to hand Burnley a first win on the road this season and leave Wolves without a win.
