The Sparks Lake fire is now mapped at  40,267 hectares or 402.67 square kilometres.

In the latest update, BC Wildfire said its crews spent the morning of July 9   along the Deadman Vidette drainage, dealing with fires that had popped up from lighting strikes the night before. ?A few initial attack spot fires, inaccessible to ground resources were assessed on the east flank during the day.

They also said outer perimeter guards will be complete in the next few days, and construction has been easier on the on the west side of the fire, while more challenging on the east. ?Limited guard is anticipated on the north end of the fire due to existing control lines but will be required along the northeast flank. ?For those living around the fire little has changed. An evacuation order is still in effect for 170 properties in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District and  704 properties are still on evacuation alert. ?The Chief and Council of the

Skeetchestn Indian Band has implemented an Evacuation Order for their community as of 10 pm, July 2. ?This cause of the fire still remains to be seen but is suspected human-caused and under investigation.?There are currently 145 firefighters, 10 helicopters and 57 pieces of heavy equipment working this fire.
