South Thompson gets heat warning extended, while Shuswap and Okanagan's ends

A reprieve from the intense heat is on its way for some of the Interior, at least.

Environment Canada ended its Okanagan and Shuswap heat advisory after a few sweltering days but said the South Thompson, West Kootenay and Boundary area will see heat reaching 35 C combined with overnight lows near 18 C.

The Okanagan and Shuswap will see daytime highs of 31 C and a nighttime low of 16 C.

They issue the warning due to the health risks involved. They include swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heatstroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

To ensure that you don't get ill, the national weather agency advises drinking plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.
