It wasn’t a typical day for RCMP officers in the South Okanagan as they arrested two suspects and recovered three stolen pickup trucks.
It all started when a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup truck stolen in Penticton was spotted by the owner on Leighton Crescent in Oliver on Nov. 19 and recovered, according to an RCMP media release.
Then a short time later police got a call about a 1999 Ford F-350 pickup stolen in the North Okanagan had been seen on McKinney Road in Oliver. It was recovered by police.
The same officers noticed a 2007 Ford F-350 pickup, that had been stolen earlier in the month in Oliver, driving on Tucelnuit Drive.
The driver tried to get away from police, driving erratically and almost hitting an officer.
Police found the truck abandoned in Okanagan Falls where the female driver and male passanger were arrested.
The driver, a 26-year-old woman from Oliver, is facing several charges including possession of stolen property, dangerous operation of a motor vehcile, flight from police and assaulting a police officer.
The passenger, a 39-year-old man also from Oliver, was arrest on outstanding warrants for break and enter, and mischief.
“Police have seen an uptick in theft of vehicles as well as theft from vehicles throughout the South Okanagan,” South Okanagan RCMP media relations officer Sgt. Jason Bayda said in the release.
“We can’t stress enough the importance of locking your vehicles and to not leave any valuables inside. As we enter into the colder weather we would also like to remind people to refrain from leaving your vehicles unoccupied when warming them up. Simply put, a running and unoccupied vehicle is an easy target.”
