Sound sleeper mistaken for dead body in Kamloops

Police responded to what was suspected to be a dead person in North Kamloops on Sunday morning and it turned out to be a sound sleeper.

A caller to 9-1-1 reported a motionless body in an orange garbage bag with their feet hanging out of it on July 10, according to a Kamloops RCMP news release.

When officers got to the walking path near Desmond Street and Ridgeview Terrace, the person sat up and confirmed they were just "sleeping deeply," RCMP said.

It was a relief to officers responding, police said.

Just last month, a body was found at the North Shore bus loop, which had been left for hours.

B.C.'s police watchdog is investigating after police were called around 5 p.m., June 28 about the man.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. did not specify whether police did respond to the scene, but it did say paramedics arrived two hours later and confirmed the man who was laying at the bus stop was dead.
