SAO PAULO - Placido Domingo is returning for his sixth concert ahead of a World Cup final.
The 73-year-old plans to announce Wednesday he will perform at Rio de Janeiro's HSBC Arena on July 11, a person familiar with the planning told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the announcement had not yet been made.
The concert, on the eve of the final at Maracana Stadium, also is scheduled to feature pianist Lang Lang, soprano Ana Maria Martinez, conductor Eugene Kohn and the Orquestra Sinfonica Brasileira.
Domingo has attended every World Cup since 1974 and sang the 1982 theme song in Spain, "El Mundial."
