LONDON, England - Sunderland has wasted little time showing off new striker Jermain Defoe.
The former Toronto FC star was in the starting 11 against his old team Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
Defoe's transfer to Sunderland was announced Friday, part of a deal that sent U.S. international forward Jozy Altidore to Toronto.
The 32-year-old Defoe has a history of fast starts with his clubs. He scored in his debuts for West Ham, Bournemouth, Tottenham, Portsmouth and Toronto.
