Calgary's Cavalry FC has signed Congo international Dominique Malonga.

The French-born forward represented France as a youth international but switched allegiance to Congo. At club level, the 30-year-old Malonga has played in Italy, Spain, Scotland, Switzerland and Greece.

"He is a top talent with valuable experience, along with a good goal-scoring record in some big leagues in Europe," Cavalry FC coach and GM Tommy Wheeldon Jr., said in a statement. "His background speaks for itself and I foresee him becoming a fan favourite with his exciting style of play and great persona.”

Malonga came through the renowned Clairefontaine academy before moving to Italy tin 2007 to join Torino FC. He also played in Italy for AC Cesena and L.R. Vicenza Virtus, where he scored 10 goals over his 38 appearances.

Malonga joined Spain's Real Murcia on a season-long loan in 2013-2014 before moving to Hibernian in Scotland, where he scored 17 goals in 43 appearances before returning to Italy in 2016.

He also had spells with Elche (Spain), Servette FC (Switzerland) and AO Chania Kissamikos (Greece).

"I am so lucky and grateful to the sport of football because it has given me the opportunity to experience different countries, people, and culture. I am excited to add Canada to that list of countries," Malonga said.

The Canadian Premier League kicks off its inaugural season April 27.
