MERRITT – With a huge dump of snow expected today, a snowfall warning has been issued for the Coquihalla Highway by Environment Canada.

Forecasters say an onshore flow of moist, unstable air is bringing heavy snow to the Coquihalla today, Jan. 30, and tonight.

Up to 25 centimetres of snow is expected to fall by the time the onshore flow weakens Sunday morning.

The warning reminds people to adjust their driving with changing road condtions and prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions on Highway 5 between Merritt and Hope, including the Coquihalla Summit.

“If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop,” the warning says.
