Snow will give way to sunny skies this weekend in Okanagan

The snowy February is evident in Gyro Park in Penticton, Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019.

OKANAGAN - After all the snow in the Okanagan today, the sun will be back out this weekend, but it will remain unseasonably cold.

A snowfall warning remains in place today, Feb. 28, for Penticton and Kelowna with a total of up to 10 cm expected before the weather system bringing all the snow begins moving east this afternoon.

Environment Canada is calling for periods of snow today in the Okanagan with a brisk wind and a high of -3 Celsius giving a wind chill around -7 C.

The periods of snow are expected to end late this evening in Vernon and Kelowna with another two cm possible. The forecast calls for flurries this evening in Penticton. The mercury will drop to around -5 C overnight with a windchill of -9 C in the South Okanagan, and -7 C in the Central and North Okanagan.

The weather office is calling for a mix of sun and cloud tomorrow in the valley with highs around 2 C and an overnight low of -10 C.

Expect both sunshine and cloud on Saturday with a high of 0 C and a low of -11 C. The forecast calls for a sunny day on Sunday with a high of -1 C and a low of -12 C.

Environment Canada says the sunshine will continue into early next week with temperatures recovering to 5 C by Wednesday.

Normal temperatures for this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of about 5 C and lows around -3 C.
