Smoky skies in for forecast for Thompson and Shuswap

FILE PHOTO – Heavy smoke sits over Kamloops.

A smoky skies bulletin has been issued for the Thompson and Shuswap regions.

Environment Canada is alerting the public to a special air quality statement that’s in effect for the North Thompson, South Thompson and Shuswap. Wildfire smoke is expected to impact those areas for the next 24 to 48 hours.

“Fire activity in the Central Interior, North East, and East Kootenay (South) continues to produce smoke and impact air quality in these areas,” the alert says. “Conditions may improve in parts of the northern half of the province today with cooler temperatures and showers in the forecast.”

The public is reminded to avoid exposure as wildfire smoke can be harmful even at low concentrations.
