A B.C. Wildfire Service initial attack crew is responding to a wildfire discovered last night west of Peachland near Highway 97C.

The Pigeon Creek wildfire is burning out of control approximately 6.5 kilometres west of Peachland, B.C. Wildfire said.

The fire, which was estimated to be 0.2 hectares when it was reported at 8:42 p.m. yesterday, June 4, has since grown to eight hectares in size.

"The wildfire is highly visible to Highway 97C (the Okanagan Connector) and no values are currently threatened," the wildfire service says. By values, the service means structures and infrastructure.

The Kelowna Fire Department received numerous calls about the fire last night.

The cause is under investigation.
