As parts of the Thompson-Okanagan experience their first snowfall of the season today, the region's ski resorts have been dealing with the white stuff for a while and are gearing up to open for the season.

Sun Peaks Resort near Kamloops is the first mountain scheduled to open and will kick off its 60th season this Saturday, Nov. 20.

The rain that has caused havoc across much of the province has meant a decent dump of snow in the mountains with Sun Peaks reporting 36 centimetres in the last seven days. The mountain currently has an alpine base of 83 cm and a mid-mountain base of 62 cm.

Kelowna's Big White Ski Resort is scheduled to open Nov. 25 and has received 30 cm of snow in the last seven days. The village has a snow base of 44 cm.

SilverStar Mountain Resort near Vernon is opening its Nordic skiing runs Nov. 26 with alpine scheduled to open Dec. 3. The mountain has received 10 cm of snow in the last 12 hours giving the resort's village a snow base of 39 cm. Its alpine snow base sits at 75 cm.

In the South Okanagan, Apex Mountain Resort didn't see the snow the other mountains got, with only one cm of new snow falling in the last seven days. However, the mountain still has an alpine base of 50 cm which will no doubt be much higher when it opens Dec. 11.

Revelstoke Mountain Resort has seen more snow than the mountains in the Thompson-Okanagan, with 94 cm falling in the last seven days. The mountain has a base depth of 112 cm and is opening Nov. 27.
