VIGO DI FASSA, Italy - Canada's Marielle Thompson raced to victory Saturday in a World Cup women's ski cross race.

Thompson, from Whistler, B.C, picked up her third straight win on the circuit after sweeping a pair of races last week in Veysonnaz, Switzerland.

Thompson has five gold medals and one bronze this season and leads the overall women's ski cross standings with 681 points. She has 36 career World Cup victories.

“Great racing today. It’s really exciting to have three wins in a row,” Thompson said.

“I just have to refocus heading into tomorrow as it's a new race. I feel good on my skis and am prepared and confident for tomorrow. I just need to make a few little changes and figure out the start, but I'm happy with where I’m at and super stoked to be leading the World Cup again.”

Marielle Berger Sabbatel of France was second and Courtney Hoffos of Invermere, B.C. was third.

“I was super excited to be on the podium, especially after a long season off and doing ACL rehab, so it feels like we’ve been trusting the process, and I’m getting back up to speed,” Hoffos said.

India Sherrett of Cranbrook, B.C., was fourth as Canada had three of the four skiers in the women's big final.

In the men's event, Ryan Regez of Switzerland won gold, followed by fellow Swiss Alex Fiva and Germany's Florian Wilmsmann. Calgary's Reece Howden was seventh.

Competition continues Sunday with another round of races in the Italian Dolomites.
