PENTICTON - B.C. Wildfire crews continue to fight a 60-hectare wildfire in the Similkameen today.
The wildfire has been given a new moniker and is now called the Richter Mountain fire, according to B.C. Wildfire communications officer Nicole Bonnett said today, July 25.
The wildfire, which broke out about 14 kilometres southeast of Cawston late yesterday, has grown to 60 hectares in size, Bonnett says. No structures are threatened by the blaze.
A four-person wildfire crew was on the scene overnight, along with heavy equipment. Two unit crews consisting of 40 firefighters are being deployed this morning.
Air tankers and a helicopter have also been assigned to the blaze, which is burning midway up the mountainside.
The fire is believed to be lightning-caused.
