A student was assaulted with either bear of pepper spray at a Kelowna bus stop earlier this week.

Officers were called to the assault at around 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, at the bus stop at Rutland Road South and Robson Road East in Kelowna, according to an RCMP media release.

RCMP say a male teenager bear sprayed a 17-year-old Sikh student.

It all started when the two teenagers got into an altercation on a bus so the driver told them to get off.

Once they were off the bus witnesses saw one teenager spray the other with what appeared to be bear or pepper spray.

"Investigators are still collecting CCTV evidence and other relevant information including taking steps to determine the motivation of this crime," the release reads.

Police said there will be an "investigational update very shortly."
