A dog was found tied up in front of a building in Prince George with a note attached to the collar, asking somebody to take care of it.

The dog is a nine-year-old pitbull named Rolo, according to the B.C. SPCA, which has taken it into care.

“As soon as he arrived we rushed him to an emergency veterinarian,” Kristen Sumner of the SPCA said in a media release.

“Poor Rolo has a lot going on health wise. The vet examined the large, protruding mass on his leg and Rolo was sedated for a biopsy. As he was examining his teeth, three fell out and it was determined that Rolo had ringworm on his face and legs. He was also underweight.”

There was some good news – the mass on the leg turned out to be benign. Rolo is scheduled for surgeries to have the mass removed, and also for dental work.

The dog is now being fed well and has been treated for ringworm.

“Rolo has been through so much, but he continues to find joy every day,” Sumner said. “He is always so excited when the BC SPCA staff greet him in the morning and give him his breakfast. When he goes out for walks this nine-year-old dog has the energy and enthusiasm of a puppy.”

Despite the intensity of the treatments required for Rolo, the dog is calm and gentle, so it’s been easy for SPCA staff to bathe, treat and medicate it.

“His big eyes win you over, and he leans into affection with all of his body weight.”

Rolo will be available for adoption upon recovered from surgery. Anybody interested in helping Rolo and other animals in need can connect with the SPCA through this link.
