SICAMOUS, B.C. - A houseboat holiday in British Columbia has come to a horrifying end for an Alberta family.
Const. Pat Pyper said a 22-year-old Alberta woman died Friday while swimming in Shuswap Lake in B.C.'s southern Interior.
Pyper said the woman was behind the houseboat in Cinnemousun Narrows, about 15 kilometres due north of Sicamous, when the vessel reversed over her.
"She had at least one leg amputated and severe injuries to the rest of her body," Pyper said,
He confirmed she had been hit by the propeller and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Eleven people were aboard the houseboat at the time.
Pyper said many of them were the woman's family members and that her name and hometown had not been released.
RCMP said the coroners service was investigating.
The fatal boating accident was one of two in B.C., over the weekend.
A 41-year-old man was killed Saturday and a second man was injured when their vessel flipped and disintegrated after appearing to hit a wake while travelling at high speed across Sproat Lake, on Vancouver Island.
Police had not yet released the names of the victims in that incident.
RCMP in Shawnigan Lake said they responded to reports of a 17-year-old boy in trouble on Sunday afternoon at a popular swimming spot south of Duncan on Vancouver Island.
Sgt. Scott Stephen said several rescue units were on scene within minutes and the teen was located in about 3.5 metres of water.
The unidentified boy was rushed to a waiting ambulance but could not be revived.
Stephen said the coroner has taken over the case and the youth's name is not being released until relatives can be contacted. (CKXR, CHNL, The Canadian Press)
