SICAMOUS - A 52-year-old man will appear in court next month after allegedly attempting to evade police with his young daughter in the Shuswap last week.
RCMP say it all started at around 9:30 p.m. Friday, June 29, when a man allegedly assaulted a 60-year-old Sicamous man at a residence on Cambie Solsqua Road.
When police arrived at the scene, it appeared the victim had been struck several times by the suspect, according to an RCMP media release. Police learned the suspect had been allegedly drinking and fled the residence with his four-year-old daughter. RCMP don't say how badly the victim was injured.
At approximately 5 a.m. the next morning, members of the local search and rescue team found the man and his daughter in a wooded area.
"The suspect was reluctant to release the child to police or search and rescue members," RCMP Sgt. M.H. McNeil says in the release. "The man eventually allowed search and rescue members to take his daughter to a family member for the night."
The child wasn't hurt.
McNeil says the suspect, who initially resisted arrest, was taken into custody and later released on a promise to appear in Salmon Arm Provincial Court on August 14.
RCMP don't say what charges the suspect is facing, and haven't released his identity.
