Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement calling for up to 30 mm of rain throughout much of the Southern Interior of B.C. over the next couple of days.

The national weather office says if the intense rain develops it could increase the risk of flash flooding in certain areas. The rain is expected to begin tonight but 10 to 20 mm is expected by Friday afternoon and some areas could get to 30 mm.

According to the statement, "These higher rainfall amounts, particularly if concentrated over the same area or over unstable slopes, may generate localised flash floods or landslides."

The rain is expected to continue into Saturday but in smaller amounts.

If the storm develops as expected, the weather statement may be upgraded to a weather advisory, watch or warning.
