RCMP are investigating after a man was shot at a Kelowna hotel this morning.

Officers responded just before 11 a.m. today, Aug. 26, to a report of shots fired at the Ramada by Wyndham in the 2100 block of Harvey Avenue in Kelowna, directly across from the Orchard Park mall.

A man with a gunshot wound was treated by paramedics for what RCMP said were minor injuries.

Shortly after the shooting, RCMP asked the public to stay away from the area while officers conducted the initial investigation.

“Officers remain on scene conducting neighbourhood canvassing, speaking with witnesses, and gathering physical evidence,” Kelowna RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy said a media release. “The investigation is still in its early stages and officers will be in the area for an undetermined period of time.”

A woman who arrived before the police did said she saw two men with blood on their hands.

Police have most of the parking lot at the back of the hotel on Enterprise Way cordoned off with yellow tape. The lobby of the hotel remains open.

An RCMP cruiser is seen near the Ramada by Wyndham on Harvey Avenue in Kelowna, Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020 as officer investigate a shots fired complaint.
