Bear shooting in Kamloops prompts search warrant, arrest

FILE PHOTO

Heavily-armed police officers executed a search warrant in Kamloops today after someone allegedly shot a bear in the city.

A man was arrested during the search of a Westsyde property and later released with conditions and a court date, according to a Kamloops RCMP news release.

“Due to the believed presence of firearms inside a residence the Kamloops RCMP Detachment requested the support of the Southeast District Emergency Response Team to assist in a safe entry and execution of the search warrant,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.

Police and conservation officers were called to the 500 block of Dairy Road, Oct. 23, when the bear was reported to be shot.

When the bear was found it was still alive and conservation officers euthanized it.

The search warrant was part of a subsequent investigation into a suspect's possession of the firearm. It's not clear exactly what charges the man may be facing and charges have not yet been forwarded to prosecutors.
