KAMLOOPS - Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the South Thompson.

Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms over the Cache Creek and Ashcroft regions as of 5 p.m. today, Aug. 1.

The thunderstorms are moving eastwards at 20 km/h towards a borad area including Kamloops and Barriere.

The warning was originally issued shortly before 3 p.m. but has been updated several times since.

The storm is capable of producing strong winds, nickel size hail, and heavy rainfalls. Meteorologists are reminding the public that these thunderstorms can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. People are also asked to go indoors to prevent injury or death from lightning strikes.
