Garage fire in Kelowna doused; no one hurt

A garage was engulfed in flames in Kelowna yesterday, but firefighters were able to contain the blaze and extinguish it.

The Kelowna Fire Department received calls about a fire at a home in the 1000-block of Tataryn Road around 8:30 p.m. on July 19, according to a press release from the department.

The first officer on the scene saw smoke and flames coming out of the garage roof, and creeping towards neighbouring structures so they upgraded the fire to a third alarm.

Firefighters arrived and were able to contain the fire to the initial building.

Everyone inside the home was able to get out on their own and there were no injuries.

The department doesn’t know how the fire started.

Firefighters brought four engines, a rescue unit, a command unit, a ladder unit, and 23 firefighters. RCMP, BC Ambulance Service, and Fortis BC were at the scene of the fire as well.

The department wants to remind people to check their smoke alarms.
