Several days of sunshine in Okanagan forecast

A sunny pattern is expected weather-wise in the Okanagan until the weekend, when some minor systems are expected to move on shore from the Pacific.

The Okanagan can look forward to a moderate week weather-wise, with several sunny days and daytime highs above freezing before clouds are expected to roll in for the weekend.

Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says a sunny pattern is in store for the next few days in the Okanagan with the odd cloudy period and temperatures around or just above seasonal norms.

“It’s going to get a bit cooler at night, with the clear skies,” he says.

A change in the weather is expected by the weekend with an onshore flow bringing some minor low pressure systems to the valley.

Today, Feb. 18, in the Okanagan expect this morning’s cloud cover to clear this afternoon, with a high of 3 Celsius in Vernon and Kelowna, and 4 C in Penticton with winds becoming northwest at 20 km/h this afternoon.

Clear skies and a low to -7 C is expected tonight in Vernon and Kelowna, with a low of -8 C expected in Penticton.

Wednesday should see sunny skies and winds to 15 km/h.

Wednesday’s high should reach 1 C in Vernon and Kelowna, 3 C in Penticton, with a windchill of -12 C in the morning.

Clear skies and a low to -9 C is forecast overnight.

More sunshine is expected Thursday with a high of 3 C and a low of -7 C.

Friday should see skies clouding over with a high of 2 C. The clouds should clear by nightfall with a low of -4 C expected.

The weekend is expected to be cloudy and possibly damp, with a mix of sun and clouds expected Saturday, along with a 30 per cent chance of showers and a high of 5 C.

There is a 60 per cent chance of showers or flurries overnight with a low of -1 C expected.

Sunday should see more clouds with a 60 per cent chance of flurries or showers with a high of 5 C.

Clouds and a 60 per cent chance of showers are expected to continue overnight with a low of -5 C.

Monday should see continuing cloudy skies and a high of 5 C.

Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton’s normal high and low for this time year is 3 C and -5 C.
