KAMLOOPS – Local RCMP arrested seven people and recommended charges against two males and one female after the Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant tied to a four-month drug sting on Friday, Jan. 30.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Cheryl Bush said the investigation surrounded a lower Sahali residence where police seized ten ounces of cocaine and methamphetamine, drug trafficking evidence and a shotgun. The specialized unit was brought in to minimize risk to officers and the public while high-risk traffic stops were conducted. Police believed there may be weapons present, Bush said.
Those arrested were known to police with information indicating they might have gang ties. Bush remained coy on specific gangs or if the sting was connected to other investigations in Kamloops.
InfoNews.ca acquired video of arrests made at the Star Lodge on Columbia Street West, but Bush would not confirm if those arrests were in relation to this investigation.
Beyond the South East District ERT, local RCMP deployed the unit helicopter. Police did not confirm if other surveillance vehicles or units were used in the sting.
Investigators are recommending charges relating to drug possession, trafficking and unsafe storage of a firearm against those arrested Friday evening.
The operation remains ongoing and officers are expected to make more arrests.
