KELOWNA - A crash between a vehicle and a semi trailer unit has claimed the life of an 18-year-old Kelowna resident.
The crash happened just before 6:30 a.m. today, Feb. 8, closing Highway 97 North in both directions between Edwards Road and the UBC Okanagan overpass, according to an RCMP media release.
“Investigators are on scene, including a collision analyst, and are working to determine what events led up to the crash,” Cpl. Meghan Foster said in the release.
Foster says road will remain closed until at least 1 p.m.
Southbound traffic is being detoured onto Quail Ridge Boulevard and northbound traffic is being directed to Hereron Road.
There are multiple reports of icy roads and accidents in West Kelowna as well this morning.
