PENTICTON - A Penticton resident has been charged with attempted murder following his arrest in connection with a stabbing incident in Penticton last Friday.

Court documents show Gunter Volkmar Spoerlein, born in 1942, was due to make an appearance in Kelowna court this morning, Sept. 9, to consult legal counsel on a charge of attempted murder in the Sept. 6 incident.

RCMP said in a press release issued Friday, Sept. 6, police were called to the 3300 block of Skaha Lake Road around 7:45 a.m. where a 78-year-old woman was found suffering from non-life threatening injuries following a “violent persons offence.”

Police arrested a 77-year-old man in relation to the incident.

RCMP said there was no ongoing risk to the public.

Court documents indicate Spoerlein "attempt(ed) to commit the murder of Bernadita Spoerlein, by repeatedly stabbing her with a kitchen knife."
