PENTICTON - Representatives from the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation, Interior Health and the Okanagan Similkameen Regional Hospital District received a construction update today, Dec. 16, at Penticton Regional Hospital.
A second crane began operations this morning on the hospital’s Patient Care Tower project.
The new crane is taller than the first crane at 260 ft. and has a lift capacity of 35,300 pounds and 6,800 pounds at the tip.
The second crane is necessary to provide additional coverage at the site.
It will also be responsible for constructing the parkade and the helipad at the top of the new Patient Care Tower.
Ground was broken on the site in July and work is well underway for this project.
The Patient Care Tower will improve access to services and enhance patient care.
It will include a new space for outpatient services, 84 inpatient beds in single patient rooms, five operating rooms and space for the UBC Faculty of Medicine’s medical programs.
The Patient Care Tower and parkade will open in 2019.
