Search for bathroom bandit leads to reprimand for B.C. vice-principal

After a pair of soiled underwear was found on a toilet in the boys’ bathroom with feces on the floor, a B.C. vice-principal is in hot water for her search tactics.

Delphine Yvette Andrée Guérineau, a vice-principal in School District 93, sought to identify the student responsible for the mess as the principal was away, according to a consent resolution agreement from the B.C. Commissioner for Teacher Regulation.

Guérineau had the secretary announce over the PA system that she would visit Grade 3 to 6 classrooms to check if the boys were wearing underwear.

According to the agreement, Guérineau had each student show her the waistband of their underwear. She also had all boys in Grades 7 to 11 gather in the hallway for the same check.

Guérineau was placed on paid leave on June 21, 2018. Her employment was later terminated on Oct. 1, 2018, effective Sept. 17, 2018.

In July 2019, a consent resolution agreement was proposed.

Guérineau admitted to the facts detailed in the agreement and its finding of professional misconduct. She agreed to reprimand under the Teachers Act.

Any breach of terms could lead to separate disciplinary proceedings.
