SALMON ARM - A spike in theft from vehicles have prompted Salmon Arm RCMP to send a warning to the public.

Thefts are occurring in parking lots and at personal residences, Staff Sgt. Scott West says in a media release.

Police remind everyone to simply remove or put personal items like change, wallets, phones and purses out of view in vehicles while they are parked.

Out of sight, out of mind is a helpful practise, he says. If a potential thief can't see anything to steal, they are less likely to target your vehicle.

If anyone has information on who may be involved in these thefts please call the Salmon Arm RCMP at 250-832-6044 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
