SALMON ARM - A man who stole a purse at the hospital in Salmon Arm, and committed an assault while attempting to steal a taxi, may face even more charges following his one-man crime spree.

Police were alerted to a complaint of a purse stolen from Shuswap Lakes General Hospital on Monday, Dec. 10, according to a Salmon Arm RCMP media release.

Salmon Arm RCMP Staff Sgt. Scott West said in the release officers spotted the suspect who fled the hospital on foot, heading towards McGuire Lake. He was arrested after assaulting a female taxi driver in an attempt to steal her taxi. The taxi driver was not injured.

West says a 25-year-old man remains in custody and is facing charges of robbery, theft, fraud and obstructing a police officer. He says the suspect had just been released the day before to appear in court in another jurisdiction for property crime offences.

The investigation continues and police may recommend further charges.
