Salmon Arm police looking for potentially stolen vehicle

SALMON ARM - Police in Salmon Arm are asking the public to contact them immediately if they locate a suspicious vehicle.

Officers were on patrol overnight and were alerted to a vehicle at the fairgrounds by an alert security guard, according to a Salmon Arm RCMP release.

The two men, who the RCMP describe as Caucasian and African American, were associated to the vehicle. When the security guard asked the pair what they were doing, one man fled over a fence and claimed to be looking for a friend.

Police were called around 2:15 a.m. and the men left the immediate area. The licence plate on the vehicle was an Alberta plate ZRA 800 and matched the vehicle it was on, a black 2007 Volkswagen GTI.

A plate check showed the vehicle and plate may have been stolen from Calgary. The men left in such a hurry they left behind a duffel bag containing a drill and a wrench, police say.

"The security guard had seen the vehicle near a couple of other businesses during his rounds and Salmon Arm RCMP have no doubt that the duo was up to no good and probably attempting to break into businesses," Staff Sgt. Scott West says in the release.

Police weren't able to locate the vehicle and they're asking any member of the public who does see it to call 911 and report the location to police. Do not try to approach the occupants or stop the vehicle.
