Rutland is losing their only walk-in clinic this summer

Rutland's last walk in medical clinic will close permanently this summer.

KELOWNA - Rutland’s only walk-in clinic is closing this summer after more than 20 years in the community.

The Rutland Medical Clinic on Highway 33 in Willow Park Shopping Mall is shutting down, according to two employees.

“The shareholders have made a decision to close,” one says. “I’m out of a job and so is the other staff.”

The employees do not want to be identified, but say staff and most patients have known about the closure for a couple years now.

“It’s really too bad,” she says. “We need our doctors so bad.”

The clinic is staffed by several doctors, most nearing retirement, who keep their medical licences active by working a few shifts each month. The employee says they won’t have any trouble finding work, but it’s the patients she is most worried about.

“I don’t know what they will do, that’s why we tried to give them as much notice as possible so they can find other doctors, but it’s going to be hard on a lot of people,” she says.

The clinic will close August 20.
