VERNON - Diving into the clear waters of Kalamalka Lake on a hot summer day should once again be possible.

The Regional District of North Okanagan has just received the final permit required for much needed restoration work on the Rotary Pier on Kal Lake in Coldstream.

According to a regional district media release, construction is set to begin in the next couple weeks with the hope the pier will be back open sometime in early May.

The pier was closed to the public in 2017 after flooding caused extensive damage to the pier and its underwater supports, rendering it unsafe.

"Restoration work after natural damage, such as flooding, often takes an extended amount of time to complete because of the insurance claim and permitting processes,” general manager of community services Mike Fox said in the release. "We thank the public for their patience and are looking forward to reopening the pier in time for the hot, summer months."

The regional district is reminding the public to stay off the pier until the repair work is complete.
