Some Kamloops residents were delayed getting home from work last evening as they waited for a mama bear and two cubs to cross the road.
Mike Williams took photos in the city's Juniper Ridge neighbourhood along Highland Road as the scene unfolded around 5 p.m. yesterday, April 12, and the cubs were safely reunited with the sow.
“The traffic came to an abrupt stop and a mama was trying to get two cubs across the road," Williams said. "She got one but the other one was wandering around going under cars. She kept disappearing and reappearing and the cub was crying. The traffic was good, everyone stopped and waited."

A man was seen picking the cub up and carrying it to the side of the road to mother bear, an action that sparked debate on social media.
“I don’t know who he is, I guess he had good intentions but maybe it wasn’t well thought out,” Williams said. “I was worried about him, the mom wasn’t far away.”
Juniper Ridge is on the edge of the city right next to the forest so it isn’t uncommon to see all kinds of wildlife.
“I love seeing wildlife where I live, we get lots, but this was a more unusual situation,” he said.
