PENTICTON - B.C.Wildfire continued to gain ground on suppression efforts at the Richter Creek fire yesterday.

B.C. Wildfire said this morning, May 17, the fire is now 100 per cent contained as efforts continue to mop up and look for hot spots.

Rain fell in the region overnight and continued today, which has also resulted in the rescindment of evacuation alerts for 14 nearby properties by the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen yesterday afternoon.

There are currently 91 firefighters and one helicopter working the blaze. The local incident management team will be turning the fire back over to the Penticton Fire Zone later today, and crew numbers will be downsized as well.

The 507 ha fire began Monday, May 13  when a vehicle fire spread to surrounding grass.
