Neighbours of Ecole H.S. Grenda Middle School in Lake Country were befuddled by the flashing lights illuminating the site this week.

“It’s been doing this since Monday,” Jordan Stadnicki posted on the Lake Country One Community Facebook page yesterday, Dec. 29. “All of the exterior lights, including the parking lot lights out back, are flashing.”

He posted an 11-second video that shows the large ‘Ecole H.S. Grenda Middle School' sign flashing on and off every couple of seconds.

“It’s on disco mode cause it’s after 8! Ain’t no party like a High School party,” one person responded.

Others were concerned that it might be disturbing neighbours, especially seniors, across the street.

“The school’s on the fritz,” wrote another. “Must be Mr. Grenda saying hello.”

The school just opened in September and has been closed over the Christmas holidays. The closure has been extended another week to give staff the time needed to adjust student scheduling to cope with the increasing number of new COVID cases.

Children of essential workers and those who need supports can return to school on Tuesday but the rest won’t be back in class until Jan. 10, by which time the lights probably won’t be flashing anymore.

No one at the School District 23 operations department responded to iNFOnews.ca by publication time.
