Report of a fight involving a gun brought Kelowna police out in force

KELOWNA – A false report of a gun being involved in an altercation yesterday brought a major police presence to the Orchard Park Mall area of Kelowna.

RCMP received a third party call about an altercation “with reports of a firearm possibly involved” yesterday, May 8, Const. Jesse O’Donaghey says in an email.

Witnesses report seeing officers at intersections around the Harvey Avenue mall and a police helicopter overhead at around 7:45 p.m.

“Investigators quickly determined the report was false a short time after their attendance to the scene," O'Donaghey says. "Officers subsequently located their subject of complaint, who was found grossly intoxicated.”

The 24-year-old Kelowna man was taken into custody and after sobering up, released without charge.
