KELOWNA - One of Kelowna's top summer attractions is getting a facelift in the coming months, hopefully just in time for the summer.
The downtown Water Park in City Park is being renovated and improved to include a host of new features, according to a City of Kelowna media release. The project received council approval in February.
The Water Park shut down in 2017 due to flood damage to the infrastructure and water delivery systems, staying closed to the public for the 2017 and 2018 summers.
A new water disposal and delivery system will be installed at the Water Park. It's expected to be flood-resistant.
The updated park will have a nature theme and will include a misting grasses, spraying woodland creatures, a ladybug soaker, an interactive waterfall-style feature and spray cannons.
Waterplay and RecTec for contributed $63,900 worth of features to the park, the city says. The overall costs of the renovations are covered by an insurance claim.
The renovated park is expected to be open this summer, but the city didn't provide an exact date.
