One of the brightest planets in the sky will be making a close encounter with the moon tonight, just in time for some sky watching in between trick or treating.

The southwestern sky should reveal a crescent moon glowing just to the left of Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system.

According to Accuweather, a telescope won’t be needed to see the phenomenon, but a telescope will show greater details of the moon’s craters in addition to revealing the largest moons in orbit around Jupiter.

Venus and Mercury should also be visible if there is a clear and unobstructed view of the horizon. The two planets will be low on the horizon shortly after sunset.

Saturn should also be noticeable in the southwestern sky above and to the left of Jupiter and the Moon.

The weather forecast for Kamloops and the Okanagan this evening is for patchy clouds but mostly clear conditions.

Next year will be even more spooky on Halloween as the event falls on a full moon, something that only happens once every 19 years.

Trick or treaters should be able to see Jupiter passing by the Moon tonight.
