Some remote control race car enthusiasts are looking for their cars after they were stolen while in Kamloops this past weekend.
Jason Mardon of Thompson Valley R/C Race Club was an organizer at the annual Kamloops Summer Classic event that ran from Friday, June 24 to Sunday, June 26.
“It is so disappointing," he said. "This year was our biggest in attendance with 57 participants showing up from various cities in B.C. and Alberta."
It was supposed to be a fun competition complete with practices, competitions, prizes and a main raffle at the racing location behind the arena in Valleyview, but it didn’t turn out that way. Personal remote control cars, or “buggies” and prizes were stolen overnight, June 25.
Some participants are sharing the incident to social media in hopes of getting their items back.
“The track is outside in a public space and we had people camping on site,” Mardon said. “We recommend people take anything of value with them at night. Mostly there were tents and tables but a few left items there and we left some prizes stored outside.”

Mardon said he arrived to find the items were missing early Sunday morning that included prizes donated by two hobby shops in the city, a main raffle prize of a new car kit and some personal vehicles.
“It was a pretty brazen theft,” heh said. “From an area where people literally had tents on either side."
He said the cars range in price from $300 beginner models to advanced, custom made souped up models priced upwards of $1,300.
The Thompson Valley R/C Club started in the early 1990s and has been holding races at its current location behind the Valleyview arena since 2003.
“It is becoming more challenging to keep things secure at this location,” Mardon said.

Two of the missing race buggies are 1/8th scale battery powered buggies of “Xray” brand.
“Just the buggies were taken, not the controller,” Mardon said. “They will both have a custom painted body, race battery, and high quality speed control unit and motor.”
Also missing is a blue custom R/C Rock Crawler with gold painted roll bars, a Dynamite Multi Tip Tool set, HoppyPower ten piece tool kit, a white painted Short Course Truck body shell and a black and white painted Short Course Truck body shell.
Missing prizes include a Team Associated RC8 3.2 1/8th Nitro Buggy kit, Arrma Senton 4x4 Short Course Truck RTR, Dynamite battery charger, Gens Ace Lithium polymer battery 5200mAh, Enduro 24 Rock Crawler RTR Trailrunner Truck, Enduro 24 Rock Crawler RTR Sendero Trail Truck and an Enduro 24 Rock Crawler RTR Sendero Trail Truck.
Mardon said he reported the incident to police and a file has been started.
