KAMLOOPS - RCMP say another round of attempted Canada Revenue Agency scams have been brought to their attention and they want to make sure you don't become a victim.
Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a media release they are hearing the same old story; somebody calls claiming to be with the revenue agency and accuses the victim of evading tax payments then threatening an arrest. The scammers also will have personal information the victim assumes must have come from a legitimate source.
"Recently a victim was contacted at her workplace by a (Revenue Canada) fraudster who had some information about her," Shelkie says in the release. "This information was likely stolen. The caller instructed the victim to make money order payments from a local post office."
She says when the victim did not complete all the payments, the scammer phoned back from a masked phone number that the caller ID said was 911.
Though they have made these types of warnings before, police want to make sure the public gets the message that they should never assume a call from the Revenue Canada is legitimate even if the call display says so.
