A now-released sex offender has changed his appearance, prompting Abbotsford Police to warn the public.

Shaun Joshua Deacon, born in 1965, was released from Matsqui Institution on March 18, where he was expected to live in the Abbotsford area under numerous probation conditions.

Despite expectations he would remain in the Lower Mainland, he was spotted in West Kelowna earlier this month and was authorized to be in the region, according to Global Okanagan.

Deacon has a history sexually assaulting children, with charges in 1988, 1996 and 1998, according to Abbotsford Police Department. He's also breached long-term supervision orders in 2002, 2009, 2014 and 2018.

Along with his probation conditions, he's been banned from attending, working or volunteering anywhere that a child under 14 would be expected, like parks, pools and daycares.

Now with a beard that changes his appearance, police are warning the public to be on the lookout for Deacon and contact Abbotsford Police if he's seen to be breaching any of his conditions.

Deacon is currently facing two criminal charges in Abbotsford again, where he is charged for a theft under $5,000 on April 5. The other involves a person under 16 that feared a sexual offence against them. Court records allege the offence took place on Feb. 10, with the charge laid on March 9. He's set to appear at Abbotsford Law Courts on May 9 to fix a future date, according to court records.

His other probation conditions include a ban on possessing any weapons; communications with people under 16, except for commercial transactions; and owning devices that can access the internet, unless authorized by a bail supervisor.
