Of the new cases, 2,319 were in the Fraser Health region, 977 in Vancouver Coastal, 460 on Vancouver Island and 122 in the Northern Health region, according to a news release from the Province of B.C. issued today, Dec. 30.

The vaccination rate remains unchanged at 91.9% for those 12 years and older with one dose and 89.1% for those with two doses. The percentage of those with three doses rose to 19.1%.

Testing for the Omicron variant takes a few days. That total climbed to 2,825 today from 2,452 yesterday. There are 152 recorded cases of Omicron in Interior Health.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry estimated yesterday that 70% to 80% of all new COVID cases are the Omicron variant.

She and Health Minister Adrian Dix will give their final news briefing of the year tomorrow.
