11-0 deficit at the start turned into a 13-point loss for the UBC Okanagan men's basketball team on Friday night in Brandon. Rematch will tip-off Saturday at 5 p.m. PST.

BRANDON, MB - With a rough start the Heat men's basketball team dug a hole early and were unable to match the Bobcats the rest of the way and dropped their first regular season game on the road (82-69) to Brandon University at the HLC Centre.
With the loss the Heat now stand at a record of (1-2) and give the Bobcats their first win of the season, also sport a record of (1-2).
Aldrich Berrios of the Heat and Tyvon Cooper of the Brandon Bobcats led the floor in scoring with 22 points and a piece. Following Berrios, for the UBCO was Buzz Truss with 12 points. For Buzz 8 of his 12 points were from the free throw line and he was able to make all eight of his shots. David Manshreck with 10 points and Berrios led UBCO with eight rebounds.
The Bobcats had three players in the double digits for scoring. Following Cooper’s 22 points was Chris Stanhope with 16 points and John Paul with 12 points.
Through the first ten minutes of play, the momentum was definitely on the Bobcats side. With Brandon scoring the first 11 points of the game, the Bobcats were scoring at a torrid pace to as they finished the first quarter with a (25-13) lead over the Okanagan squad. The Bobcats Chris Stanhope led in scoring with seven points and the Heat’s Ryan Morck with five points.
In a similar fashion the Bobcats continued to lay on the pressure and held the Heat to only (11-33) 33.3 percent from the field. With the Bobcats shooting an impeccable (14-22) 63.6 percent from the field, the Manitoba squad finished the half with a (41-32) advantage.
The third quarter started with another push by the Bobcats as they went on a (15-6) run on the Heat. With small pushes by the Heat the third was finished with a staggering (68-45) lead by the Bobcats.
With a tough first three quarters, UBCO was able to find a rhythm in the fourth, scoring 22 in an attempt to make a push on the hot shooting home team. With the strong final frame UBC Okanagan finished the game with just a 13 point deficit. Playing nearly even after starring the game down 11-0.
With a slow start in scoring the Heat were only able to shoot (21-65) 32.3 percent in tonight’s game compared to the Bobcats (27-48) 56.3 percent. The Heat were also unable to match the Bobcats more consistent shot from beyond the arc which was (7-17) 41.2 percent compared to the Kelowna squads (7-20) 35 percent.
The larger Brandon team led the way on the glass out rebounding UBC Okanagan 39-33, and scoring 32 points in the paint compared to just 20 for UBCO.
With a tough matchup on the road, the Heat will now prepare for their rematch against Brandon which will take place tomorrow (November 12) at 5 p.m. PST at the HLC.
